Critical Factors to Consider when Touring Assisted Living
June 23, 2021The Power of Community
December 21, 2021Did you know that one of the biggest reasons seniors choose a retirement community is to focus on health, longevity, and wellness?
Wellness may seem like a new trend, but for John-Wesley Villas, promoting the health and wellness of our residents is one of our founding core values. For many seniors, retirement is often the first time they are able to slow down and finally focus on themselves. That’s what wellness is all about – focusing on your personal health and happiness and actively making positive choices to improve one’s health. Self-care is vital for happiness and overall longevity. We tend to be so busy in our everyday lives and taking care of others that it’s easy to forget to take care of ourselves, too. Promoting personal wellness and healthy habits can help to enhance your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health and quality of life. Simply put, taking care of yourself is necessary to a long and happy life.
Here are a few healthy habits to consider adding to your routine:
Walk more throughout the day. Walking has many health benefits, including increased mobility, more energy, and improved mental health.
Get your flu shot. Many areas begin offering annual influenza vaccinations starting in August. Now is a great time to visit your local pharmacy or medical provider and get ahead of the seasonal virus. When it comes to wellness, prevention of illness is one of the best ways to care for your health.
Drink more water. Staying hydrated helps to increase energy levels, decrease appetites, and boosts brain function. Dehydration is a common but often preventable ailment for many seniors. This is especially true during the summer months, as the warmer temperatures cause us to lose more water throughout the day. Adding just one more glass of water per day can help you eat fewer calories throughout the day, too!
Add a “Super Food” to your diet. Superfoods contain a high level of vitamins and minerals and provide a host of health benefits that reduce the effects of aging. Some superfoods to consider are avocados, berries, fish, olive oil, and yogurt.

Transportation is also available to all our residents to bring them to and from scheduled medical appointments.
John Wesley Villas continues to follow the latest recommendations and guidance from the CDC regarding COVID-19. All staff members that care for or interact with residents continue to wear face masks to protect our residents and their families. Frequent handwashing is required by our staff and residents are encouraged to maintain social distancing requirements as they apply.
